Italian Flatbean Prawn Curry

Italian flat beans r one of the variety of beans family...A light green or purple bean that is similar to a common green bean except that it is flatter in shape and broader in dimension. Very similar to a traditional string beans r green beans, the Italian Flat Bean can be substituted in almost any recipe using string or green beans. Italian Flat Beans can be eaten raw as a side dish or added as an ingredient to casseroles and other vegetable dishes. Do not overcook the Italian Flat Bean since it may cause the beans to become soft and quite mushy. I tried it out as curry with these beans n its was too tasty as we do with green beans..

1/4kg Italian flat beans
1no onion
1no tomato
3nos green chillies
10nos prawns
1/4tsp mustard seeds
1/4tsp Urad dal
2tbsp Grated coconut
3nos Curry leaves
2tsp Oil
Salt

Cut the onion, flat beans n tomato into small pieces, heat oil in a kadai..once the oil is hot add the mustard seed n urad dal..let them splutters..now add the onion n tomatoes pieces n stir them occasionally until they cooks well...

Add the washed shrimps to the onion n cook it until they change their colour, add the well chopped italian flat bean pieces to the kadai n stir it continously..add the green chillies opened slightly to the bean pieces n stir them, add salt as per taste..put the flame in simmer n cover the kadai with a lid..

These beans will get cooked very easily so no need of adding water, in case if they r nt cooked well just sprinkle water, usually this wont happen..check whether the bean pieces r cooked, add the curry leaves n put off the stove...add the grated coconut to the cooked beans n mix it well...this is completely optional..

Serve as side dish for any rice dishes..it will be a perfect side for sambar saadham n rasam saadham..
