Capsicum N Tomato Pappu

Capsicum is a vegetable that comes in an exciting range of colors, like green, red and yellow. It is native to America and in fact, has been cultivated by the people of the tropical Americas since thousands of years. Known by a number of names, like chili pepper, bell pepper and red or green pepper, the vegetable is used as a spice, medicine and obviously, a vegetable. Apart from being great in taste, capsicum also holds a great degree of nutritional value and accords numerous health benefits to people. They are rich in proteins, vitamin A&C, they are good for diabetics,promotes cardiovascular health by helping lower blood pressure, athey helps to reduce cholesterol..i combined green capsicum n tomato to make my dal, which goes perfectly as gravy for hot steaming rice dish also with rotis n parathas..this dal tastes awesome..i dedicate this tomato capsicum dal to my family as we love tomato pappu much, coz this pappu tastes divine with hot steaming rice topped with ghee and papads...


1cup Capsicum pieces
1/2cup Cooked toor dal
1no Onion chopped
2nos Tomatoes(pureed)
2nos Green chillies
1/2tsp Lemon juice
1tsp Mustard seeds+urad dal
2nos Dry red chillies
Few cumin seeds
1/4tsp Asafoetida powder
2tbsp Coriander leaves (chopped)
Salt
Oil

Heat enough oil in a kadai, add the mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds, dry red chillies n asafoetida powder and let them splutters, add the chopped onion,slit opened green chillies, fresh tomato puree n stir everything for a while, now add the capsicum pieces n saute with salt for a while, add the cooked toor dal n add enough water, bring everything to boil..put the flame in simmer n cook until the capsicum pieces are tender, add the lemon juice n put off the stove..add the chopped coriander leaves to the pappu..

Serve hot with steaming rice topped with ghee!!

The dhal looks so delicious Priya, great idea of using capsicum...adding tomato puree in dhal is also very new to me, I should try this yummy dhal soon :)

I hav enever had capsicum in al, but i am sure going to try this combo as it looks so yummy delicious and love the colour too.

Yumm..Bet its so divine with rice n ghee.Am so fond of this dish,used to have it so much with rice from our office mess...But ofcourse that was normal pappu.grt addition :)
