Cheesy Artichoke & Mushroom Calzone

Calzone, its a kind of pizza looks exactly like a pocket and its an Italian turnover made usually with pizza dough and stuffed with cheese, ham or vegetables..The dough will be folded over and sealed on one edge and baked in oven..I do this calzone often sometimes with store bought marinara sauce and cheese since my son fond always for this fabulous calzone..This time i prepared the famous Italian calzone again with cheese, canned artichoke hearts and mushrooms,as i rarely cook artichoke hearts..I prepared simply a peppered mushroom and artichoke masala and stuffed a store bought pizza dough for making this Indian version calzone..Needless to say my little one enjoyed having this calzone for his snacks and we too enjoyed it with a cup of coffee..

Cheesy Artichoke & Mushroom Calzone

Peppered Artichoke & Mushroom Masala:
1cup Mushroom (chopped)
1/2cup Artichoke hearts (canned & chopped)
1no Onion (Chopped)
1tsp Garam masala powder
1/2tsp Red chilly powder
1/4tsp Pepper powder
1/4tsp Fennel powder
2tbsp Coriander leaves (chopped)
Oil
Salt

Heat oil, add the chopped onion with fennel seed powder, saute until they turns transculent..now add the mushroom pieces, chopped artichoke pieces with garam masala powder, pepper powder, red chilly powder with enough salt ,stir everything fo a while and springle some water, cook in simmer with lid closed..once the oil get separated, add the chopped coriander leaves, put off the stove..keep aside and let them cool..

Assembling the Calzone:
1no Pizza dough
1/2cup Grated cheese
few drops of Oil

Preheat the over to 350F..Place the artichoke-mushroom masala to half of the dough, springle the grated cheese over the masala, fold the another half over the masala, give a press to the pizza dough with fingers or with a fork..brush the unbaked calzone with few drops of oil..Bake the calzone for 15-20 minutes until the crust turns brown..

I'm thinking pizza for the weekend and here I find your delicious recipe! It's also the second time recently that I've seen fennel powder/pollen in a recipe. I've located a source and really must give it a try. Thanks!

Wow i love calzone, we used to get Calzone in Dominoes in India,I used to love it but then they stopped.
Now after moving to Europe, i come across this many times but i cannot try because of me being vegetarian. This looks yummy, will give it a try.
