Tamarind Broken Wheat Upma/Godhumai Rava Puli Upma

Puli upma aka tamarind upma is usually prepared with rice flour, coarsely grounded rice batter or else with rice rava. Its quite an interesting dish which makes a fabulous breakfast, snack food or else prefect for dinner. Almost like upma, this puli upma is flavoured with usual spices which we usually use for upma apart from cooking the grains with tamarind extract. Whoever loves to kick start their day with a dose of tanginess in their food will definitely enjoy this healthy version of puli upma. Since this dish is a delightful breakfast dish, you doesnt even need a side dish to enjoy with. To bring more nuttiness to this incredible healthy broken wheat upma with tamarind extract, i didnt forget to add some peanuts while tempering which is completely optional. Since i want to give a healthy twist to this traditional dish, i opted for broken wheat, however you can replace the broken wheat very much with rice.

Godhumai puli upma, tamarind wheat rava upma

Am running this week's blogging marathon with Breakfast staple with different grains as theme, hence am sharing this healthy version of puli upma which is prepared with broken wheat rava. I used small sized wheat rava hence i opted for usual way of cooking upma. If you are using big sized or bulgur type of broken wheat dont forget to try them by pressure cooking which is super fast and quite easy way to prepare this dish. Dont forget to temper this upma in gingelly oil, thats brings a fabulous flavor to this simple dish. You can pack this incredible puli upma even in your kid's lunchbox. Yes this upma sounds and tastes almost like tamarind rice however the cooking process involves less time than the tamarind rice. Make this healthy version of tamarind upma and do let me know.

very well done, using broken wheat is innovatively used. Really great recipe again. This is looking like more tamarind rice sort of or puliogare. But feeling tempting.
