Sweden is a Scandinavian country with Stockholm as capital. Swedish Cuisine is quite an interesting cuisine of Europe.A typical Swedish breakfast consists of a hard cheese, cold-cut, sausage or marmalade sandwich. The beverage is coffee, hot chocolate or tea and milk or juice. Some prefer porridge, others various breakfast cereals with yoghurt or filmjölk, processed sour milk. There are many different kinds of bread, from different rye breads and crispbreads to French rolls and toast. Swdeish lunch is a fairly simple meal, since most people only have a break of one hour from work.If you visit a Swede at home, you will almost always be given coffee. Next to the Finns, the Swedes are the biggest consumers of coffee in the world.Viennese pastry, cinnamon buns or cookies may be served with the coffee. The most popular piece of pastry is the green marzipan cake called princesstårta. Since am running a month of blogging marathon with A-Z International flatbreads i was looking for a flatbread's name starts with 'H'. While googling i crossed this Honokaka which is a flatbread from Swedish island called Hono.

Äppelkaka/Swedish Apple Cake
Apple cake is quite common in most of the International cuisine, obviously when i picked Swedish recipes for this week's theme, i looked for Swedish version of Apple cake. And the description of this Swedish apple cake pulled me to give a try to this pie like Swedish cake. Actually a pie crust like dough is used for making this fantastic apple cake. With a crispy outer and a succulent apple slices loaded inner, this Swedish apple cake will definitely please your tastebuds. This apple cake is quite a common dessert in Sweden, which is served around the year either for snacks or else for lunch or dinner after a meal. Usually served with a traditional accompaniment aka Vanilla sauce, this cake makes a fabulous and delicious dessert to enjoy without any guilt.

Mandel Kakor - Swedish Almond Butter Cookies
To be honest, i have been exploring Swedish cuisine recently and all the credits goes to this week's blogging marathon's theme. Yes am running this week's blogging marathon with Swedish Recipes as theme. Though this cuisine is not that much familiar to me, i have baked and cooked few dishes only after i have started blogging, obviously this week's theme pulled me to go and look for many interesting and fantabulous baked dishes from this cuisine. Am kick starting this week's theme with an extremely delicious, dangerously addictive Swedish butter cookies flavoured with almond extract. Almost shaped and baked like Italian biscotties, these baked goodies are called as butter cookies. Yea even i was bit intrigued about the texture of this cookies before baking, but i was completely wrong, i have fallen in love with this cookies. This cookies can be baked longer for crisp cookies and shorter for chewy cookies. I baked mine as crispy cookies.

Kanel Snegle/Kanelbullar - Swedish Cinnamon Snails/Buns
After baking a 100% wholewheat bread, for this month's of We Knead To Bake, a monthly baking event by Aparna of My Diverse Kitchen,we are baking the humble cinnamon buns or cinnamon snails. Kanel Snegle/Kanelbullar,this Swedish cinnamon buns are tremendous and they have spices like cardamom and cinnamom. Cardamom is used in the dough and cinnamon is used inside the snails/buns as filling. Actually cinnamon snails are the coiled shaped buns while twiste buns are twisted dough and rolled up on depends upon the shape you go for. This Swedish Kanel Snegle/Kanelbullar are traditionally made on 4th October every year in Sweden to celebrate the day of Cinnamon buns but you can find them in bakeries throughout the year there.
Aparna suggested us to make both snail shaped cinnamon rolls and the twisted once, since i want to try the both shapes, i prepared the both the snails and twisted buns. Seriously i loved making this Swedish cinnamon buns at home since cinnamon buns are our family favourite. I prepared the starter, which is quite important for making this bun the day itself Aparna posted the challenge in our group and i prepared the next day this both shaped buns with cinnamon and almond powder filling. If you want to stick with the usual cinnamon filling you can skip the almond powder addition here. And one of the best part of these buns, you can freeze them very well, just heat them in microwave oven and enjoy with your cup of tea.If you are planning to make this cinnamon buns, just start making the starter before a day.
