Red Rice Flakes Murukku/Sivappu Aval Murukku

Have you ever tried making out Chaklis aka some crispy murukkus with rice flakes, if not you should try atleast once as they are extremely crispy and dangerously addictive. Red rice flakes when grounded as fine powder and sieved, they are just ready to prepare your murukku dough with other ingr├ędients like gram flour, butter, sesame seeds and asafoetida powder. Grounded and sieved red rice flakes once mixed with other ingr├ędients makes this incredible crispy munchies. Actually red rice flakes grounded as flour replace very well the humble rice flour we usually use for making the murukku dough.

Am running this week's blogging marathon with a fabulous theme, since Diwali is around the corner, this week's theme is going to be Diwali Sweets and savouries. Am kick starting this week's theme with this ultimate murukku. Diwali is not complete without these crispy savouries, and not to forget that traditional sweets like badusha, mysorepak have their own place in diwali platter as well. I will post tomorrow an interesting Diwali special sweet, do you want to know? obviously stay tuned dears.

Sivappu Aval Murukku

2cups Red rice flakes
1cup Gram flour
1/2cup Roasted gram flour
1tbsp sesame seeds
3tbsp Butter (melted)
1/4tsp Asafoetida powder
Oil for deepfrying

Dry roast the red rice flakes until a nice aroma comes from, let it cool completely, grind as fine powder and sieve it.

Now take the sieved red rice flakes powder in a bowl, add the gram flour, roasted gram flour, butter, sesame seeds asafoetida powder, salt.

Gradually add water and knead everything as a soft and sift dough.

Heat the oil for deepfrying in a kadai.

Take a murukku press with any nozzle,pinch a small portion of the dough,drop it into the press and squeeze directly to the oil.

Fry on both sides until its turns golden brown, drain the excess of oil with paper towel.

Repeat the same process until the dough gets finished.

Fry the murukkus in small batches.

Arrange in an air tight containers and enjoy.

This is a wonderful recipe , sounds so different , the murukku looks very flavourful and not to miss crunchy . Rice flakes is new to me in this , very innovative .

Priya, that is very different murukku and I would love to make it. Red aval is my favorite as I love the earthy flavor of it. I am definitely trying this soon.
