Sfenj/Moroccan Donuts

Last week, i have posted three different Moroccan dishes as i picked 'Moroccan Food' as theme for blogging marathon. While i was searching for some different and interesting recipes from this cuisine, i got hooked to this Sfenj aka Crispy Moroccan donuts.Sfenj is also considered as Algerian Donuts, however you can start your day with this donuts and end with it. Sfenj is a popular street food of Morocco and Algeria, and they are eaten with a cup of tea or coffee as these donuts are not that much sweet. These donuts are crispy on outside with chewy inside.

Moroccan Sfenj

Moroccans usually purchase their sfenjis from souk (market place) to enjoy as street food on the go. With varieties of street foods available in Moroccan souk, sfenj will be definitely the top most favourite street foods of Moroccans. Since these donuts are unsweetened, you can enjoy this crispy beauties with any sort of glaze. We enjoyed this Moroccan donuts with nutella and trust me these donuts vanished very much quickly than you can imagine. Am running this week's blogging marathon with Make street foods at home as theme, hence Sfenjs for the theme.

Moroccan Doughnuts, Sfenj

1cup All purpose flour
1/2cup Fine Semolina
1tsp Instant yeast
1/2tsp Salt
Oil for frying

Take the all purpose flour, fine semolina, instant yeast, salt in a bowl.

Slowly add the luke warm water and knead everything together until the dough turns smooth but sticky.

Wrap the bowl and arrange in a warm place for 2 hours until it doubles the volume.

Heat the oil for frying, meanwhile grease well your hands, take a medium sized ball of the dough.

Shape it as round shaped donuts with a hole and drop it to the hot oil.
