Broken Wheat Biryani/Wheat Rava Vegetable Biriyani

Broken wheat, an extremely interesting ingredient to cook with, you can dish out many beautiful and delicious Indian dishes out of this incredible diabetic friendly ingredient. This broken wheat aka Dalia have its own place in my pantry. I just love to cook with this broken wheat as they are extremely prefect to cook from breakfast to dessert. My today's broken wheat biriyani goes definitely for an easy version, with usual spices you can dish out this one pot meal quickly in pressure cooker. Cooking through pressure cooker makes our life easier, obviously if you are in hurry just go with pressure cooking. With handful of mixed vegetables this incredible, diabetic friendly briyani makes an excellent meal to serve along with your favourite side dish and raita.

Vegetable broken wheat biriyani

Am running this week's blogging marathon with 'Recipes with Wholegrains' as theme, obviously i cant think more than wheat rava to dish out this flavourful one pot meal.You can pack this incredible briyani in anyone's lunch box. If you are using frozen vegetables, then this biriyani gets ready very much easily than you can imagine. This dish is completely vegan and diabetic friendly, if you want to add more flavor, dont forget to use coconut milk or else yogurt. However i went for an easy breezy preparation of this healthy biriyani with simple and usual ingredients. As i told earlier, this incredible biriyani goes to this week's blogging marathon.

Vegetable Dalia Biryani

2cups Broken wheat/Wheat Rava
2cups Mixed vegetables (i used baby potatoes,baby carrots, green peas & green beans)
2nos Onions (sliced thinly)
2nos Tomatoes (chopped finely)
1tbsp Ginger garlic paste
2nos Green chillies (slit opened)
1/2tsp Red chilly powder
1/4tsp Turmeric powder
1tsp Garam masala powder
3cups Water
1/2cup Mint leaves (chopped)
Salt
Oil
2nos Whole spices (bay leaves,cloves, cinnamon stick & cardamoms)

Heat the oil in a pressure cooker, fry the bayleaves, cloves,cinnamon stick and cardamom until they turns brown.

Add immediately the sliced onions,chopped tomatoes, slit opened green chillies,ginger garlic paste and sauté with salt until the veggies get cooked and raw smell goes away.

Now add the mixed vegetables, saute everything for few minutes.

Meanwhile wash the wheat rava and keep aside.

Add the red chilly powder, turmeric powder,garam masala,cumin powder to the cooking veggies, cook for few minutes.

Now add the 4 cups of water,mint leaves to the cooker,bring everything to boil.

Finally add the washed wheat rava,cook in high flame,close the cooker.

Cook upto three whistles,put off the stove. Once the steam gets released, give a stir gently.

Serve hot with onion raita.

The only way I think of using broken wheat is to make the famous gujarati sweet dish lapsi. The biryani looks so delicious, I am now going to put broken wheat to better use.
