You can see many varieties of modakams, kozhukattais since few days everywhere in this virtual world. Hope many of us are ready to celebrate Ganesh chathurthi today, even am getting ready to prepare a feast. Before the festival ends, am trying to post an another modakam recipe i crossed yesterday at Sailaja's space, since this recipe goes for an instant preparation of rice and moongdal mixture,i pulled myself to prepare it immediately. I just used palm jaggery instead of usual jaggery, else i didnt changed anything and went as per original recipe. This modagam came out simply prefect, as much as like savory uppuma urundai, but this sweet version rocks.
1/2cup Raw rice
2tbsp Yellow moongdal
1/4cup Grated coconut
1/2cup Palm jaggery (grated)
1/2tsp Cardamom powder
1tbsp Ghee
2cups Water
Dry roast the rice until they turns bright white but not brown.
Dry roast the moongdal now until a nice aroma comes from.
Cool the rice and dal completely, take them together in a mixie jar and grind as rava like consistency.
Meanwhile add the jaggery to the water, bring it to boil, cook until the jaggery gets dissolves.
Strain the syrup and take it in a vessel, bring again boil.
Add the rice-dal mixture, grated coconut and cook until the mixture turns thick, gets off of the vessel.
Cool the mixture, make lemon sized balls from the mixture.
Remove the modagams, cool completely.
Give me that ya! drooling over the pics :)
