Bredeles Alsacien, i tasted this cookies while i went to celebrate christmas in Strasbourg, capital of Alsace region, i didnt noticed the ingredients when i tasted this cookies as they were very tasty i thought i can search for the recipe later, but while searching for traditional cookies for Meeta's Monthly Mingle - Spiced Cookies, i thought of making this cookies, as they suit prefectly for the event...usually they r prepared with 4 spices like cardamom, cinnamon, ginger n cloves r simply without any spices, here i tried them sterday with cinnamon powder, my fav spice n they turned out really tasty, its quite simple to make them..with almonds n walnuts this traditional butter cookies of Alsace tastes really delicious..
1no Egg (yellow yolk)
3/4cup All purpose flour
1/4cup Almonds + Walnuts pieces
100g Butter ( room temperature)
1tsp Cinnamon powder
1/2cu Sugar
pinch of Salt
Preheat the oven at 350F...Beat the yellow yolk of egg with sugar n salt until they turn soft, add the butter, meanwhile grind both the almonds, walnut pieces into fine powder..add the all purpose flour n cinnamon powder to the butter n sugar mixture slowly, also add the grounded powder n knead them as soft dough..
Dust the dough with all purpose flour n roll them with rolling pin, with cookies cutter cut them as any shape as desire..Bake them in middle rack for 10 minutes r else until the turn slightly brown..
Decorate the cookies as per ur preference...i decorated them with confectioner's sugar mixed with water...

If you like the Alsatian butter cookies, you might like the "Zimt Sternes" or Cinnamon Stars.
Another type that is popular is the Anis Bredele...
I've tasted just about every Bredele that they make in Alsace. Every year we get bags of home-made Alsatian cookies from the neighbors and my husband's family.
They're all good!!
