Cabbage Dal / Cabbage Sambhar

Cabbage dal goes well with hot rice topped with ghee...they tastes too good, different dhal with cabbage, can be also a side dish for chappathis,pooris....they will be mildly spicy..sure u will prepare often this dal once u tasted them..


1 cup Cabbage (shredded)
3/4 cup Toor dhal
1 no Onion
1 no Tomato
1 tsp Sambar powder
2 nos Green chillies(slit open)
1 tsp Lemon juice
Salt as per need
Oil for tempering
1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
1/4 tsp Urad dal
1/4tsp Asafoetida powder
2 nos Red chillies
2 nos Curry Leaves
2tsp Coriander leaves chopped

Pressure cook toor dal with a cup of water n a pinch of turmeric powder until 3 whistles..cut the onion n tomato into small pieces...

Heat oil in a kadai..add the mustard seeds, uraddal , red chillies with asafoetida powder n let them splutters.. now add the onions pieces n tomatoes pieces n cook them until the onions turns transculent n tomatoes a bit mushy..add the shredded cabbage pieces to the cooked onions n slit opened green chillies n stir them occasionally close with the lid, so that cabbage will get cooked easily, add now the toor dal with sambar powder n salt..adjust the dal as per ur need, can add water as ur wish...cook them for a while..once they r done add the curry leaves n coriander leaves..put off the stove n now add the lemon juice to the dal...
Serve hot with rice...

Delicious Cabbage dal goes well with dosais n idlies too..
