Tawa Machli Amritsari/Tawa Fried Amristari Fish

You might have noticed i have been posting Tawa friendly dishes for the past two days, today's recipe is definitely a delicious treat for Seafood lovers. Though am a great fan of fish fries, its been a long i prepared fish fries. However my today's recipe is quite a different dish from the usual fish fries. Amritsari style fried fish is an excellent starter when served for a get together or in a party. When i googled i saw varieties of Amritsari fried fish which calls for deep frying, but today's version goes for tawa frying. Tawa, this pan works awesome for frying fishes, hence i went with this tawa fried Amritsari fish. While watching a TV show, i got hooked to this delicious starter and i bookmarked this dish immediately. Finally i got a chance few days back to dish out this super delicious Punjabi style tawa fried fish for our Sunday lunch.

Tawa style punjabi fish, Machli Amritsari


Usually prepared by deep frying, this fish fries are served immediately to please seafood lovers, but today's versions calls for Tawa frying, obviously with less oil this dish makes an excellent side to serve along with some rotis. Am running this week's blogging marathon with Make in Tawa as theme. After a delicious rice and a different noodle dish with Banana stem, i couldnt stop myself to post this fantastic Tawa machli Amritsari aka tawa fried Amritsari fish for this theme. If you are vegetarian, dont forget to prepare this same dish with paneer cubes or tofu, trust me you will definitely go crazy if you tastes this dish at home. Do you know this dish is quite a popular Punjabi dish and whoever visit Punjab will never return back to their place without tasting this delicious dish.

Machli Amritsari, Punjabi Fried fish

1/2kg Fish filets (sliced as medium pieces)
1/4tsp Chaat masala
1/4tsp Ajwain/Omam
1tbsp Chilly powder
1/4Garam masala powder
2tbsp Fried gram powder
1tsp Ginger paste
2tsp Garlic paste
1/4cup Mint leaves (Mint leaves)
2nos Onions (chopped)
2nos Tomatoes (chopped)
1tbsp Lemon juice
Dry fenugreek leaves/Kasuri methi

Take the lemon juice, salt, 1/2 teaspoon ginger paste, 1 teaspoon garlic paste,chilly powder, fried gram powder in a large bowl and make a thick paste.

Add the fish pieces and marniate the fish pieces well and keep aside for half an hour.

Heat enough oil in a tawa, add the chopped mint leaves, the chopped onions and saute until the onions turns transculent.

Meanwhile heat enough oil in an another tawa, drop the marinated fish pieces one by one and fry until the fish pieces gets well fried.

Add the tomatoes, salt and cook until the tomatoes turns mushy. add the ginger garlic paste, chilly powder, chaat masala, garam masala powder,ajwain seeds and cook the vegetables turns as a paste.

Now drop the masala to fish pieces and toss gently. Top it with dry fenugreek leaves/Kasuri methi.

Serve hot.
