Chinese Pan Fried Baozi Buns/Chicken & Carrot Panfried Baozi

Chinese foods are our family favourite and seriously i enjoy their varieties of foods served in chinese restaurants. Am living in Chinatown and obviously i dont need to run or search for chinese ingredients, just few minutes walk i have couple of chinese stores to hunt those specific ingredients to dish their dishes easily at home. And this week is going to be some delicious chinese foods i have dished out for this week's blogging marathon as this week's theme is 'Homemade Chinese Take Away Foods'. Srivalli gave this Buzzfeed link to try our hands to make out some incredible chinese foods at home. While going through this link, most of this take away friendly chinese foods tempted me a lot, obviously i couldnt resist to give a try to this ultimate baozi buns. As an ardent fan of Chinese foods, i was literally drooling over all those beautiful dishes and seriously i was struggling to pick three delicious dishes out of those 28 dishes the link shared.

Chicken Carrot Baozi, Panfried Chinese Buns

Baozi is known as Bao, Bau, Bakpao, Pao, this steamed or pan fried buns made with yeast is quite known in chinese cuisine with different fillings. Yes these steamed buns can be filled with meat or vegetarian fillings though Pork filled buns are quite popular. Obviously i prepared this baozi buns with chicken and carrot as the original recipe went for grounded pork and grated carrot. Usually steamed, this buns can also prepared by pan-frying. Though this buns calls for a yeasted dough and filling, the preparation may sounds bit long but trust me, this buns are definitely worth to try. Dont forget to prepare in huge batch as this buns can be freezed prefectly to enjoy during anytime of the day. Kids enjoyed thoroughly this incredible buns with a spicy chilly sauce,yes we loved these buns to the core. If you want to try a vegetarian version, dont forget to replace the minced chicken with tofu or else either with couple of sauteed vegetables.

Panfried Baozi, Panfried Baozi Buns

Recipe Source: The Woks of Life
Dough:
4cups All purpose flour+ extra flour (for dusting)
1tsp Instant yeast
1tsp Sugar
1+1/2cups Luke warm water

Take the flour, yeast, sugar in a bowl, slowly add the lukewarm water and knead the flour until the dough turns smooth.

Cover the bowl with a damp kitchen towel and let it sit for an hour to proof.

Chicken & Carrot Filling:
1cup Ground Chicken
1tsp Sesame oil
1tbsp Light Soya sauce
3tbsp Cooking oil
1/4tsp White pepper powder
1/4tsp Salt
3Large Carrots (grated finely)
3tbsp Vegetable oil
1cup Chopped scallion
2tsp Grated ginger
1tsp Salt
1tsp Sesame oil
1tsp Rice vinegar

Take the ground chicken in a bowl, add in the sesame oil,light soya sauce, cooking oil, white pepper powder, salt, mix everything well and keep aside.

Heat the oil, add the grated carrots and sauté until they gets cooked but not mushy.

Take the grounded chicken mixture, sauteed carrot in a bowl, add in the chopped scallion, grated ginger,salt, sesame oil, rice vinegar and mix everything again.

Your filling is ready now.


Shaping the Baozi buns:
Punch down the proofed dough and knead for few minutes, divide the dough into medium sized balls.

Take each ball, dust with flour and roll it as round circle with thinner edge and thicker center.

Put some filling to the center and start folding the dough as shown in the picture bu pleating the edges of the dough like an accordion. Seal the edges tightly on the top.

Lay the buns on a floured surface until you finish with the dough balls.

Pan fried Chicken Baozi, Chicken Carrot Baozi

For Panfrying:
2tbsp Oil
1/4cup Water
Handful of chopped scallion
2tsp Toasted sesame seeds

Heat a pan over a medium heat, add the oil to the pan to coat evenly and add the buns to the pan.

Let it cook for few minutes in simmer until the bottom turns golden brown.

Add the water,cover the pan and put the flame in simmer, cook for 7-8minutes.

Now add chopped scallion, toasted sesame seeds to the buns and toss it well.

Enjoy warm.
