Poğaça - Turkish Breakfast Rolls

Poğaça (poe-ah-CHA) is a buttery breakfast rolls from Turkish cuisine. This soft breakfast rolls have a tender and biscuit like texture coz of the baking powder added while kneading the dough. Mostly stuffed with delectable fillings like black olives paste, feta, spiced ground beef, or else with Turkish pastrami, a stuffing prepared with Turkish sausage and mashed potato, this breakfast rolls are quite popular in Turkey. Bakeries all over the Turkey prepare this Poğaça daily for breakfast eaters who want to finish their breakfast on the go. However many home makers have their own recipe to serve this breakfast rolls during a family get together, for family breakfasts or else for an afternoon tea gatherings.

Earlier no herbs are added to the dough, but in recent times, it became a popular mode to add a mixture of fresh herbs to give a wonderful, aromatic and green coloured dough which goes very well with a cheese fillings. This bite sized rolls makes an excellent evening snacks to enjoy thoroughly with a cup of Turkish Apple Tea or else with coffee. If you would have went through my previous post, you might have noticed that am running this week's blogging marathon with European cuisine as theme and i picked Turkish cuisine. After some soft bagels, my today's post goes for this cheese stuffed Turkish rolls.

Poğaça,Turkish Eggless Breakfast Rolls

2cups Flour
3/4cup Melted butter
1/2tsp Salt
2tsp Baking powder
1/4tsp Sugar
Milk (for brushing)
Black poppy seeds or sesame seeds (for topping)

For Filling:
1/3cup Feta cheese or goat cheese (crumbled)
1tbsp Chopped parsley
1tbsp Chopped coriander leaves

Crumble the Feta or goat cheese with a fork, now add the chopped parsley leaves and coriander leaves to the cheese, mix well and keep aside.

In a large mixing bowl, take the flour, add all the ingredients and knead everything until the dough turns smooth and firm (no water is added in the dough).Keep the dough aside for 15minutes.

Make small balls of dough, press a ball down on a lightly floured surface to flatten it.

Drop a small amount of the filling in the center. Fold the circle in half over the filling.

Seal the edges come together and press it with a fork. Repeat the same process with all the dough balls.

Turkish Eggless Breakfast Rolls

Preheat the oven to 350F, line a baking sheet over a baking tray, arrange the turkish breakfast rolls onto the baking tray with enough space in between.

Brush them with milk and sprinkle the black poppy seeds, bake for 20-25minutes until the Poğaça turns golden brown.

Serve warm with your favourite drink.
