Kambu Uthappam/Pearl Millet Uthappam

Am a health nut and am proud to be, most of our daily menu will have atleast a wholegrain it, if i make oats for breakfast, the next day i'll use brown rice for our lunch or else millets for our dinner. Yes i mix and match fibre rich, nutritious wholegrains in our menu. Sometimes none at home will notice the addition of these wholegrains in their food, i'll mask them by adding either vegetables, or in baking with chocolates etc. However we need to break our head to feed our family with health stuffs na. One among those new attempt is this Kambu Uthappam aka Pearl millet Uthappam.

Uthappam is nothing a dosa like dish made with idly-dosa batter, they wont be crispy and crepe like as dosas but as a thick pancake with toppings, we call actually uthappams as Indian pizza.Instead of usual batter, i prepared mine with pearl millet batter and this uthappam turned out extremely delicious with onion, tomato and bellpepper toppings. Uthappam is also called as oothappam which means poured appam, usually i'll make uthappams with mildly sour idli batter and we love the mild sourness in uthappams. Serve them with coconut chutney, sambhar or kuzhambu for both breakfast or dinner. Sending to my own event Healthy Diet-Cooking with Wholegrains guest hosted by Nupur.

2cups Pearl Millet Batter
1no Onion (chopped finely)
2nos Tomatoes( chopped finely)
1/2cup Bellpeppers (red & green chopped finely)
Salt
Oil for drizzling

Take the chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, chopped bellpeppers in a bowl, add salt, mix well, dont add to much of salt, coz the batter will have salt already.

Heat your usual dosa tawa, rub it gently with few drops of oil.

Once the tawa is hot, pour ladle of Pearl milled batter and spread as thick dosa, dont spread it thin.

Drizzle oil on the sides.

Sprinkle the onion, tomato and bellpepper mixture generously over the dosa, give a press with a spatula.

Once the dosa gets well cooked, flip the dosa and turn it to other side to cook.

Drizzle some oil and let it cook well.

When the other sides gets cooked well, remove the uthappam from the tawa.

Serve immediately with chutney, sambar or Kuzhambu.
