Eggless Oats Chocolate Chips Scones

Baking is also one of passion since i started cooking...i prepared all sorts of baking items except scones, here comes my experience of preparing scones without egg..but i used flax seeds as the replacement of eggs..i rarely baked without eggs, this time i used flax seeds to prepare this scones.. thought of preparing simply with oats, last minute i added few chocolate chips...We had these scones for breakfast, they really turned out awesome also as vegan..

2cups Wheat flour
1cup Rolled Oats
1tsp Baking powder
1/2tsp Baking soda
3tbsp Vegetable Shortening
2tbsp Oil
2tbsp Grounded flax seeds
6tbsp of water
1/4cup Sugar
1/4cup Almond milk
1/4cup Chocolate chips

Just grind few tablespoons of whole flaxseeds into fine powder...conserve them in an air tightened box in fridge, can use whenever u need to prepare breads, cookies as eggless...

Take a large bowl..add the wheat flour, oats, baking powder, baking soda , mix everything well with ur fingers, first add the shortening, oil to the flour n make them crumbly texture, now add the almond milk, sugar also the chocolate chips to the bowl, mix the grounded flax seed powder with 6tbsp of water into thick paste n add to the flour n mix everything well, dont over mix..make them as dough...

Dust the dough with few spoons of all purpose flour..roll the dough with a rolling pin as a thick disc..with a knife cut the disc into 8 wedges..

Transfer the wedges to a cookie sheet, leave atleast few space between the scones, meanwhile preheat the oven to 425F..brush the tops of the scones with almond milk..bake them for 20 minutes r until they get slightly browned...

Let them cool..serve them with coffee r tea..simply with any spread..

  13. Priya I really thank you for taking the effort and time to bake using flax seed meal, when you generally bake with eggs. I have never baked scones so far. Your recipe is also healthy using whole wheat flour, oats and almond milk. Good one.

  14. Forgot to mention this, I see that you don't have Vegan in your labels. It would be lot more easy when somebody is searching for Vegan Recipes in your blog, because all eggless items need not be vegan right?
