Indian festivals are incomplete without sweet dishes. Obviously Indians makes varieties of sweet dishes. If you are not an Indian, just google for the varieties of sweets exists in Indian cuisine seriously you will be amazed to see the list of sweets. Some of the Indian sweets are quite easy to dish out while certain sweets have their own long cooking process which is definitely a traditional way of making sweets in India. Paal payasam which is known as Kheer aka Indian pudding is one of the easiest and most known Indian sweets. This sweets is often prepared in every Indian household to celebrate a special day or festival or else simply a pradasam to God for any special occasion. And this sweets can be prepared with immense mix and match of ingredients from vegetables to fruits, nuts to grains etc.
My today's post calls for wholegrains aka whole wheat berries, though wheat berries calls for a long cooking process, this dish can be prepared easily with Indian pressure cookers. Apart from soaking the wheat berries overnite, this Kheer gets ready in less time when compared to traditional way of preparing kheer. Am running this week's blogging marathon with Sweets of similar kind as theme, and i picked Kheer as the sweet for this week. Needless to say that i will sharing three different kheer for this theme and am kick starting this week's blogging marathon with this extremely pleasing Wheat berries Kheer.
1/2cup Wheat berries (soaked overnite)
1cup Milk
1cup Water
1/2cup Sweetened condensed milk
1/2tsp Cardamom powder
Few cashew nuts
Ghee (as per need)
Cook the soaked wheat berries in pressure cooker along with water and milk for 5-6 whistles.
Once the steam get released, add the sweetened condensed milk,cardamom powder and cook everything until the kheer gets bit thickens.

Heat the ghee, fry the cashewnuts, add this fried cashewnuts along with the ghee to the prepared kheer.
Serve warm or at room temperature.
Dont forget to garnish the kheer with your favourite nuts.

Wheat berries in a kheer sound so unique , the kheer must have tasted amazing with condensed milk - so creamy . I am loving this kheer , it looks so festive with that garnish . Must add this kheer to my kheer collection .
