Dhaba Style Dal Fry/Punjabi Dal Fry

If you are looking for a fingerlicking dal dish, am sure my today's Dhaba style dal fry will definitely tempt you to give a try at home. Dhaba style dal fry is quite a popular North Indian lentil dish served in Dhabas. This dhaba style dal is enjoyed along with rotis or else with hot steaming rice . This dal fry is prepared completely with toor dal which is also known as Arhar dal. Dhabas are small restaurants which are typically situated on alongside of roads and highways. Most of the dhabas serves rustic Punjabi dishes, you can find many delectable both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes in every dhabas. If you planning a trip to go to Northern part of India, dont forget eating at Dhabas. Most of the dishes served in Dhabas tastes ultimate.Yes Dhabas dishes are known very much for their simplicity and for their flavors.

Punjabi Dal fry
Am running this week's blogging marathon with 'Dazzling dals' as theme, obviously these week's theme are going to be dal based dishes. For the first day of this week's theme, i couldnt stop myself to post my all time favourite Dhaba style dal fry. This dish is a very simple dish prepared with toor dal, though many versions do exists, dhabas serves dal fry prepared only with toor dal. If you are using pressure cooker for cooking this dish, trust me you can dish out this dal fry in less than 15minutes. Just a delicious dal fry to try without any fail. If you feel like making this same dal fry with mixed dals, just go on with moongdal, urad dal, masoordal or else with channadal. Give a try to this comforting food.

1cup Toor dal
1/4tsp Turmeric powder
1no Onion (chopped)
1 Tomato (chopped)
1tsp Ginger (chopped)
1tsp Garlic (chopped)
1tsp Green chilly (chopped)
1/2tsp Chilly powder +1/4tsp for tempering
1/2tsp Garam masala powder
1/2tsp Mustard seeds
1/2tsp Cumin seeds
2 Dry red chillies
Salt
Ghee

Pressure cook the toor dal with turmeric powder until they turns soft and mushy.

Now heat enough ghee in an another vessel, add the chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, chopped ginger, chopped garlic, chopped green chilly and saute until everything gets well cooked.

Add the dal with enough water, bring it to boil, add the chilly powder, garam masala and cook for a while.

Put off the stove, in a small kadai, heat few drops of ghee, let crack the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fry the dry red chillies until they turns brown.

Dhabba Style Dal Fry

Add 1/4tsp of red chilly powder and pour this tadka to the dal.

Your dal fry is ready, add chopped coriander leaves and serve.

  6. Usually if anyone mentions tadka dal to me it means dal made using moong dal. I love your toor dal one and the tempering on top makes it look so delicious. Next tadka dal at my home will be with toor dal.
