My this week's posts are going to be some interesting round balls. Yes this week's blogging marathon theme is All that come round are laddoos. Obviously when i picked this theme for this week's blogging marathon i couldnt think more than dishing out some crispy balls. Chettinad cuisine shares many succulent dishes and one among those dishes is their popular kola urundai aka spicy deep fried crispy balls. These balls are usually made with either elephant yam, raw banana, but i made some twist and dished out this dangerously addictive spicy balls with both mushrooms and spinach.

2nos Garlic cloves
4tbsp Coconut
4nos Dry red chillies
7tbsp Roasted gram/pottukadalai
1no Onion (chopped finely)

In a pan, heat few drops of oil and saute the chopped onions, curry leaves until the onions turns transculent. Remove and keep aside.
To the same pan, add the chopped mushrooms and spinach and saute until the vegetables shrinks a bit.
Grind the poppy seeds, coconut, garlic cloves, fennel seeds, dry red chillies with sauteed mushrooms and spinach as bit coarse paste.
Grind the roasted gram as fine powder.
Now take the sauteed onions, grounded mushroom mixture, roasted gram powder and salt in a bowl.
Mix everything well to form a dough.Pinch out medium sized balls from it and keep aside.
Heat the oil for deepfrying. Drop the rolled balls to the oil..
Fry in medium flame until they turns golden brown, drain the excess of oil with a paper towel.
Serve with ketchup.
Trust me, both mushrooms and spinach works awesome together to prepare this ultimate crispy balls which you can serve very well as starter or else as snack with your favourite drink. I prepared this crispy balls few days back for our sunday lunch to serve as side dish for rice. Until i revealed the secret ingredient aka Mushroom, everyone at home thought that this Kola urundai were made with minced meat. Yes this balls tastes very much like those popular meat balls aka Mutton Kola urundai. Give a try to this beauties, trust me you will definitely love it. In case if you dont like or allergic to mushrooms just replace them with any sort of quick cooking vegetables.
