You might have noticed that am posting about Sankranti special dishes and my today's post goes to an incredible deep fried wheat flour patties. This dish is definitely a new dish for me until i was searching for something different for Sankranti. Actually i was looking for a new sankranti special dish and i landed to Hari Chandana's space. These incredible patties are dangerously addictive and almost like our Adhirasam, this appalu will definitely tickle your tastebuds. Very simple to prepare this appalu dough, you wont forget to give a try to this dish often.
Am running this week's blogging marathon with 'Festival Special' as theme obviously am posting Sankranti special dishes. After a different Sweet balls aka Laddu from Andhra Pradesh, my today's post goes for a traditional Sankranti special sweet. Prepared with a combination of wheat flour and rice flour, this appalu dough calls for an easy preparation. However the tricky part is deep frying, yes trust me, you need to fry this appalus in medium flame as this appalus tends to cook quickly. Apart from it, this Appalu makes as an excellent prasadam to celebrate Sankranti.
1/2cup Wheat flour
1/2cup Rice flour
1cup Jaggery (grated)
1cup Water
Sesame seeds (as per need)
1/4tsp Cardamom powder
Oil for deep frying
2tsp Ghee
Take the water and grated jaggery in a heavy bottomed pan, heat until the jaggery gets dissolves completely.
Add the cardamom powder, mix it. Now add gradually the wheat flour, rice flour to the syrup, take care not to form lumps.
Continue stirring until the mixture turns thick, put off the flame.
Add the ghee and mix well, let it cool completely. Now the dough will be firm.
Grease your hands and divide the dough into small balls. Roll the dough in sesame seeds and press the dough as a flatten disc.
Heat the oil for deep frying, gently drop the flatten disc into oil and fry them on both sides on medium flame until the appalu turns golden brown in colour.
Drain the excess of oil with a paper towel.
Serve.
