Awamat are tiny deep fried potato donuts balls which tastes absolutely fabulous. A yeasted potato dough when rolled as small balls are fried to browned crisp, then coated with a simple sugar syrup makes this cute balls. This deepfried donuts balls are Lebanese potato donuts which suits prefectly for any occasions. Since these cuties are dangerously addictive, you cant just stop with one. Make sure to make enough of this crispy beauties if you are planning to make for a get together or else for a kid's party. Trust me kids will devour this deep fried cuties without any fuss, though they are dropped in sugar syrup after frying, these Awamat have a super soft inner and bit crispy outer. However i simply enjoyed thoroughly making these potato donuts at home with simple cooking process.
I picked Awamat from Srivalli's space to celebrate her birthday virtually, yes today's is Srivalli's birthday and few of us (blogging marathoners) dont want to miss to celebrate this day as we all live in different part of the world, obviously we are celebrating virtually Srivalli's birthday by cooking a dish from her space. She doesnt need any introduction, she is one among the Veteran blogger who never fail to surprise you with her succulent dishes, she is the brain child of blogging marathon, i have been part of this group since ever she started this event and am one among the few bloggers who had an immense pleasure to meet her personally. Even during my last trip, we had some funfilled moments together as we had a small meet in chennai with other Marathoners. Am blessed to have her as a friend.
Wishing you a happy birthday Valli. Have a sparkling birthday and may god bless you with more health and loads of love and happiness.
Coming to my today's post Awamat, i sticked with this video and went adding mashed potatoes which Srivalli skipped in her awamat.
For donuts:
2cups All purpose flour
1no Large potato (cooked & mashed nicely)
1/2cup Sugar
1tsp Instant yeast
1/4tsp Salt
Oil for frying
Sugar syrup:
1cup Sugar
Water (just enough to cover the sugar)
1tsp Lemon juice
Take the sugar in a vessel, add in the water and bring to boil. Cook until its turns thick.
Finally add lemon juice and keep it aside.
Take the flour, yeast, mashed potato, sugar, salt in a mixing bowl, slowly add luke warm water to knead to a soft dough. (Take care not to add much water else the dough may turn super sticky).
Cover and keep it aside until its double in volume or else for an hour.
Heat oil, drop a spoonful of dough in hot oil.
Cook in medium flame until it turns golden brown, remove from oil.Drain the excess of oil with a kitchen towel.
Drop the fried donuts to the syrup, let it sit for few seconds, remove the donuts from the syrup.
Serve and enjoy.
