Lemon Chocolate Cake

Chocolate cake is our family favourite and my kids just love chocolate cake with anything in it. Obviously i'll try to add fruits, seeds, nuts depending upon the ingredients available in my pantry. You can see varieties of chocolate cakes in my cake collections but still i have few more combinations to try and taste at home. One among those combination which i always to want to give a try is this Lemon-chocolate combination. Finally i prepared this fantabulous cake few days back for this month's Shhhh Cooking Secretly Challenge started by me few months back.Every month i'll make a pair with the members, then later we secretly discuss with our pair and give two secret ingredients to our pair, finally we cook with those secret ingredients and post on next month between 16-18th of every month. This is how this group function, we are having loads of fun by guessing the ingredients and have real fun with the members. Also this group brings out the creativity from the members since the two ingredients given by the members will definitely pull you to dish out interesting dishes.

Lemon chocolate cake, double layered cake

My pair for this month is Pallavi Purani of Thou Shalt Cook, she gave me lemon and cocoa powder as my secret ingredients.Initially i want to make a cheesecake with lemon and cocoa powder but while discussing with my kids, they asked me for a cake. Then i changed my mind and went for a cake. However i want to make a marble cake with this combination but while pouring the batter, i completely forgotten to make the marble effect. Needless to say we loved this double layered cake very much, the lemon and chocolate combination works out simply fantabulous. With a cup of coffee or tea, one can have a super filling and satisfying snacks.

2cups All purpose flour
1cup Corn flour
2cups Sugar
4nos Eggs
1cup Yogurt
1cup Canola oil
1/4cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
1tsp Lemon zest
2tbsp Lemon juice
100grms Dark chocolate bar
1tsp Baking powder
1/4tsp Baking soda

Mix together the all purpose flour, corn flour, baking powder and baking soda and keep aside.

Beat together the eggs and sugar until it turns pale and smooth, now add the yogurt and oil ,beat everything again for a while.

Now add the flours, stir everything well and dont overmix.

Meanwhile melt the chocolate bar with few water in microwave oven for 4minutes.

Divide the already prepared batter in two bowls, to the one bowl add the lemon juice, lemon zest and mix it while in another bowl add the melted chocolate, unsweetened cocoa powder and mix it.

Preheat the oven to 350F.

Greased a round pan or loaf pan, pour the lemon flavoured batter first, then pour the chocolate batter.

Bake for 25-30minutes in middle rack or until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean, keep aside and let them cool.

Slice and enjoy with your cup of coffee or tea..

  11. I love the combined flavour of lemon and chocolate. I can't remember when I last used vanilla extract to flavour a chocolate cake. I always use orange or lemon rind and flavour. The cake looks really tempting.
