Look at these black vadas, aren' they look cute. Last week i picked a bag of whole urad dal from Indian grocery, back home i was quite excited to try those whole urad dal as vadas. Two days back, i prepared these super crispy medhu vadas for our lunch and served simply with some dal. Both together tastes super fantastic and we had a fabulous lunch.
May be the colour of these vadas wasnt that much appealing but tastewise they tastes exactly like the usual medhu vadas, to give bit crispiness to the outer layer of this vadas i mixed some coarsely grounded whole black urad dal. With onions and usual spices, these vadas are definitely quite addictive. They tastes even more tastier when served with spicy coconut chutney.Do check out the other marathoners running this 17th edition of blogging marathon here.Sending to my own event CWS-Black Gram guest hosted by Shri and Street Party guest hosted by Shama, event by Jagruti..
2cups Black Whole Urad dal
Salt to taste
2nos Onion ( finely chopped)
3nos Green chillies(chopped finely)
1tsp Ginger (chopped)
Few Curry leaves (chopped)
3tsp Coriander leaves (finely chopped)
1tsp Fennel seeds (crushed)
Oil for Deepfrying
Soak the whole urad dal overnite, the next day grind the urad dal bit coarsely, add the salt to the dal, grind again this help the dal to grind well.
Now add the chopped onion, chopped green chillies, chopped ginger pieces, chopped coriander leaves, chopped curry leaves, crushed fennel seeds..mix everything well with your fingers.
Heat oil for deepfrying, take a small ball from the medhu vada batter n flatten them with your fingers, drop gently one by one to the medium hot oil.
Deep fry the vadas until they turn brown, fry everything as small batches, drain the excess of oil with a paper towel.
Serve hot with spicy chutney or as side dish.
