Chow Chow / Chayote Halwa

Chow chow Halwa , tastes like carrot halwa, usually we do curries with chow chow, my mom used to do occasionaly halwas with chow chow...they will be very tasty...can replace carrot halwa with this halwa...Chayote r known as Bangalore Kathirikkai in tamil,Bengaluru Vankaya in telugu, Chow Chow in Hindi..

2cups Chow chow grated
2 cups Unsweetened condensed milk r full fat milk
1 cup Water
2cups Sugar
1/4 cup Ghee
2 tsp Cardamom powder
2 pinch Food colour(green)
10 nos Cashew nut pieces

Heat 2 tsp of ghee in a heavy bottomed pan n fry the cashew nuts pieces until they turns slightly brownish, keep aside...fry the grated Chow chow pieces in the same ghee for a while until the raw smell goes away, add the 2 cups of milk , water with sugar n cook them in heavy flame, once the milk starts boiling, put them in medium flame, add the food colour n stir it occasionally..

Cook them well, this may take 15 minutes, add the ghee with the cooked chowchow pieces, n stir it..once the ghee get separates from the halwa, add the cardamom powder n fried cashew nuts..stir them well...put off the stove.

Yummy Chow chow halwa!!!!
