I was looking for a different dal dish for this week's blogging marathon. You might have noticed that am running this week's blogging marathon with Dazzling dals as theme. After a delectable Dhaba style dal fry, my post for this week's theme goes for an another interesting, easy breezy and definitely a comforting dal dish from Awadh cuisine. Google master took me to Chef Sanjeev Kapoor's Site where i crossed this delicious dal. This dal calls for easy ingredients with usual cooking process, but the interesting addition in this dal is Milk. Yes you heard it rite, milk is used in this dal dish. Adding milk in a dal is completely new for a South Indian like me. Even i was bit skeptical about this addition, but trust me i was completely wrong.
The addition of milk brings a mild creaminess to this simple and comforting dal. We enjoyed having this creamy dal with rice and potato fry, obviously everyone at home enjoyed thoroughly this dal dish. As i told earlier, this dal dish is quite an easy dish to prepare if you are bored to make an elaborate dal based gravies like sambar or kootu. Toor dal is used in this dish, however if you feel like combining other pulses like masoor dal, moongdal dont hesitate a second. Anyhow this dal dish is a keeper as its quite a comforting dish for people like me who loves simple dals for their meal.
1cup Toor dal (soaked)
2 Green chillies(chopped)
1/2tspTurmeric powder
4nos Garlic cloves
1cup Milk
2nos Dry red chillies
1/4tsp Asafoetida powder
1/2tsp Cumin seeds
Oil
Salt
Coriander leaves (chopped)
Pressure cook the soaked dal with green chillies, salt, turmeric powder with enough water for upto three whistles.
Once the steam released, bring boil the dal with milk and cook for a while.
Heat enough oil in a pan, let crack the cumin seeds, asafoetida powder, fry the dry red chillies, chopped garlic and saute until a nice aroma comes from.
Add this tempering to the dal and continue to cook for few minutes. Put off the stove.
Add the chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.

Yet another delicious dal in the series..
Even I made this dal but could not take pictures when I made it. Recipe is in my magic folder until next time. Even I was skeptical of milk and was surprised how good it tasted.
That is such a homey and delicious dal. Adding milk is quite interesting and must have made dal taste even more yummy!!
The dal looks wholesome and delicious, what a wonderful recipe it is!
I prefer dal over any spicy curry for a nice comfort food. With a dollop of ghee and hot steamed rice, this would be just divine..
This is truly soul food!I am happy to have another dal recipe
Dal is my all time favourite. Awadhi recipes are so nice to taste.
Can't imagine how milk would taste in dal and am so curious to try this out. The bowl looks super cute Priya! :) :)
Delicious dal Priya. I remember my MIL's friend had some years back suggested that after any dal is cooked and if I didn't ant to add cream or butter like as in makhni dal, then adding about 2-3 tbsp of milk would do the trick of making it creamy. I follow that it works like magic. Sometimes it also helps when the dal becomes a bit too spicy..it helps to balance the taste.
Wow what a great idea. Never tried dal with milk. This looks delish. Next time I will follow this recipe. Thanks for sharing 😊
This dal surely looks so creamy and fantastic Priya. I think we can go on and on with so many versions of dal right..very good choice!
