We are running successfully a month of blogging marathon for the past three weeks. And this week is the last week of this Mega marathon. You might have noticed that am running this month's marathon with 4 themes for 4 weeks. For the first week i picked International Breakfast dishes, 2nd week was No Onion No Garlic Recipes,3rd week was Wholegrains. And for the last week of this blogging marathon is going to be Kid's lunch box recipes. Yes this week's posts are going to be kid's friendly lunch box dishes that you can pack them easily with less efforts. For the first day of this week's theme, am posting this simple, yet a flavourful protein packed biriyani i dished out few weeks back for our meal. My kids loves beans very much in their diet, obviously i dont forget to add them whenever i feel like feeding them easily with this protein rich beans.My young one's favourite black-eyed peas, he just love to munch them once they gets pressure cooked.
Obviously when i decided to go with Kid's lunch box recipes as theme for this week's blogging marathon, i seriously want to cook a rice dish with black-eyed peas. Hence this one pot meal. I opted for black-eyed peas as my kid love this protein rich beans, if you want to replace this beans with any other beans of your choice, please go with. If you are using a pressure cooker, trust me this biriyani calls for less than 20minutes to get ready.Obviously i opted for pressure cooker to prepare this protein rich tomato biriyani.This biriyani came out extremely flavourful, delicious and aromatic which is definitely a prefect kid's friendly lunch box one pot meal. Served along with a boiled egg or with a side dish, this biriyani will definitely fill anyone's hungry tummy easily.
2cups Basmati rice
2nos Onions (chopped lengthwise)
2cups Cooked Black-eyed peas
1/2kg RipenTomatoes(chopped)
2nos Green chillies (slit opened)
1tsp Ginger paste
1tsp Garlic paste
2nos Whole spices (bayleaves, cinnamon sticks, cloves, cardamom)
1/2tsp Whole fennel seeds
1tsp Red chilly powder
1/2tsp Garam masala powder
1cup Yogurt
2cups Hot water
Salt
3tbsp Oil
1tbsp Ghee
Few mint leaves
Heat the oil and ghee in a large vessel add all the whole spices, fennel seeds to the hot oil and fry until a nice aroma comes from.
Add the chopped onions,slit opened chillies, garlic paste, ginger paste and cook until the onions turns transculent.
Now add the chopped tomatoes, red chilly powder, garam masala powder, salt and mint leaves, mix everything well and cook until the oil get separates. Finally add the black-eyed peas, saute for few minutes.
Meanwhile wash the rice twice and strain the excess of water.
Now add the washed rice to the tomato masala, give a stir.
Add now the yogurt and hot water to the rice, check for salt and cook everything in medium high flame for 5 minutes.
Put the flame in simmer and cook until the rice gets well cooked. Serve this rice with any sort of side dish.

I have enjoyed all your themes and now I am sure you will rock with the lunch box theme , the Biryani sounds very flavourful . The beans would definitely be a star in the rice , healthy protein rich Biryani which is easy and quick to make besides looking so so good .

I always fail in pressure cooking biryani and end up with something like kali. Yours has come out perfect Priya. And the addition of black eyed peas makes it a nice filling meal.

Whenever I have leftover lobia curry, I always make the pulao with it the next day. Looks so tempting.
So flavorful and love the beans in the biriyani. I always add some kind of bean in my rice recipe to include some protein and black eyed peas are my favorite.
