Radish Greens Dal

If you are able to get radishes with their greens, dont ever trash those greens anymore..You can very well use them for making dals or soups, i simply prepared this wonderful looking comforting dal with those greens, toor dal and with garlic cloves, we enjoyed having this garlic flavoured dal for our yesterday's lunch along with simple okra fry, both together turned out our lunch super filling, healthy and comforting..

2cups Radish greens (chopped)
3/4cup Toor dal
1/4tsp Turmeric powder
1/2tsp Red chilly powder
1/2tsp Mustard seeds
1/2tsp Cumin seeds
1/4tsp Asafoetida powder
6nos Garlic pods(crushed)
2nos Dry red chillies
Few curry leaves
Salt
Oil

Cook toordal with turmeric powder and chopped greens in pressure cooker upto 3hisses, add the chilly powder, salt and water, cook everything for few minutes..

Heat enough oil in a pan,let splutters the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida powder and curry leaves, add the dry red chillies, crushed garlic pods, fry until they turn brown, add this tempered spices to the dal and put off the stove...

Serve hot with rice, papads or any spicy side dish..

  6. Great recipe. I normally do the same dish with palak or drumstick leaves, the toor dal will mask the slight bitterness of radish leaves and we get all the medicinal benefits also. How cool is that!
