Green Tomato Kootu

Its been a long i prepared kootu with green tomatoes, last week i got some fresh green tomatoes from my friend's home grown tomato plant, they were prefect to make some gravies and i dont want to miss this wonderful opportunity to make some green tomato kootu, usually i make kootu simply with a masala paste prepared with coconut, green chillies and cumin seeds, this time i prepared a quite different masala powder using many spices along with dessicated coconut, this kootu turned out super delicious, prefect to serve along with rice, rotis and dosas...We had our lunch and dinner with this kootu, serve it with some spicy fries for our lunch, you will definitely have a wonderful lunch..Personally i felt this kootu tastes super delicious when served as side dish along with crispy dosas..Sending this delicious green tomato kootu to my own event CWS-Mustard Seeds guest hosted by Kiran of Sumadhura and to MLLA#35th Helping guest hosted by Smitha, event by Susan and finally to Kiran's  CWF-Toordal guest hosted by Suma..

Green Tomato Kootu

1/4cup Moongdal
1/2cup Toor dal
4nos Green tomatoes(medium sized&chopped)
1no Onion(chopped)
1tsp Mustard seeds+Urad dal
2nos Dry red chillies
1/4tsp Asafoetida powder
1/4tsp Turmeric powder
Few curry leaves
Salt
Oil

To roast & grind:
1tbsp Coriander seeds
1tsp Peppercorns
1tsp Poppyseeds
1/2tsp Flax seeds
1tsp Mustard seeds
1tsp Cumin seeds
3nos Dry red chillies
3tbsp Dessicated coconut

Roast and grind all the ingredients given under the list 'to roast & grind' as fine powder, meanwhile pressure cook the moongdal, toordal, green tomatoes with turmeric powder and salt with enough water upto 3 hisses...keep aside until the steam gets released

Heat enough oil, lets splutters the mustard seeds, urad dal, asafoetida powder, fry the red chillies until brown, now add the onions, curry leaves and saute until the onions turns transculent...Add the cooked dal-tomato mixture, already prepared spice powder to the onions, cook everything for few minutes, put off the stove..

Serve hot with papads along with rice or simply with rotis and dosas..
